It's here!  The big day has finally arrived.  Since most surgeries are scheduled for first thing in the morning you will probably be too tired to worry very much.  I had to be at the hospital at about 5:00am.

bulletDon't forget, no eating, no drinking...very very important!
bulletWhen you get to the hospital you'll need to check in.
bulletOnce that is completed you'll be brought to a room that will probably be temporary so don't leave anything there.  Have whoever brought you to the hospital take home your clothes, jewelry and anything else you may have brought with you.
bulletAll kinds of people will be coming in to check on you, ask you questions, have you sign things.  This all goes pretty quickly.
bulletFinally, it's time to go to surgery.  You probably were given a shot in your temporary room so by the time you get into the operating room you'll be pretty groggy.  One thing I've done just before each of my surgeries is to thank everyone who is there.  I don't know why I do this.  Part of it is the excitement for the new life they are about to give me and part of it is trying to show some respect and appreciation for what they are about to do.
bulletNext thing you know, you are awake.  There will be someone near by who will want to know how you are doing and one of the surgeons will probably check on you and let you know how things went.  You will be very groggy and very sore.
bulletFrom the recovery room, I was brought to ICU.  I had a couple of visitors but they were very short visits.  The nurses are there to help you so let them know if you need anything or you have any questions.  Try to get some sleep, although I found this easier said then done.
